Close to Xmas Update...

Hello Friends,

I have been locked away in the Leopard Room writing for my next solo extravaganza for 2002. I have also been jamming and writing with Eric Singer (KISS) and we are coming up with some cool heavy riffs suited for Zakk.

I will be mastering "Live from Oz" with Simon Phillips this week. It will be released worldwide three months after MOON BABIES is out.

MOON BABIES will be released sometime in the spring of 2002.

I hope that everybody has a great holiday season!

Derek Update...

Hello Friends,

Just getting back in the groove after a great tour of Latin America w/ Yngwie Malmsteen. I must say that Yngwie kicks serious ass on guitar. He really is the real deal, and I would love to play with him anytime.

After the nightmare gig in Porto Alegre, we had two great shows in Curitiba, and Sao Paulo.

To Sao Paulo, the last gig of the Yngwie tour stands out as my favorite gig in all of my career, thank you so much!!

Click here for the South American Tour Reviews.

While I was in Sao Paulo, I had a chance to have lunch with my friend Andre Matos, formerly of Angra. We were discussing the possibilities of working together in some capacity next year.

I will be playing at the Cat Club on the Sunset Strip (next to the Whiskey a go go) the next 2 thursday nights with Gilby Clarke (Guns n Roses) and Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats) starting at 11pm. There are always cool guest stars sitting in, and it is THE cool spot on thursday night in Hollywood, come down and say hi.

The name of the new Planet X Cd will be "Moon Babies".
Some of the titles are:

Ataraxia
Ground Zero
Moon Babies
Tonaz
Slubberdegullion
Ignotus per Ignotium

I will finish my overdubs this month and hopefully Simon will have it mixed by the end of the year. Billy Sheehan, Jimmy Johnson, and Tom Kennedy will be featured on bass.

"Moon Babies" should be in the stores by March 2002.

Keep you posted,

Derek

Derek apologizes to the Brazillian people after the Yngwie Malmsteen Brazil show mishap.

Eu AMO o Brasil, e eu AMO o povo brasileiro.

Atenciosamente,

Derek Sherinian

Derek Update...

Hello Friends,

Simon Phillips and I went to go see the G3 concert at the Wiltern in LA and had a great time.

It was great to see Virgil play with Steve Vai, and Billy Sheehan! Also it was great to see John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy last night backstage. At the end of the night, Vai, Satriani, John Petrucci, Steve Lukather, and Paul Gilbert all came on stage for the encore, very cool!

I started to do B3 overdubs on the first five Planet X songs for the next record, it is sounding great!

Happy 4th of July to everyone!

Talk to you soon!

Derek

Coming back from North America and Australia!

Here's an update from Derek following the Planet X North American/Australian Tour.

Hello Friends,

We just got back from a great tour of the East Coast US, and Australia. We multi tracked the last night of the tour in Melbourne, and PLANET X will release "Live from OZ" next year sometime.

Virgil is going off to tour w/ Steve Vai on the G3 tour, and Tony is off with CAB. Which leaves me in the Leopard Room this summer doing keyboard overdubs on the newest Planet X CD which we will have out at the beginning of next
year.

Simon Phillips and I are producing a band from Orange county called Accomplice. They are progressive metal. They just finished their drum tracks at Simon's, now they start over dubbing at the Leopard Room. We will try and help them get a deal when we finish their CD.

If anyone else is interested in having me and Simon produce your music, just e-mail me.

I am working on putting together a European Planet X tour in october, keep you posted.

Return from Japan!

Hello Friends,

I just got back from a very successful promo tour for "Inertia" in Japan.

Thank you to all who came out to the Tower Records stores in Osaka and Tokyo!

I will be writing a column for Young Guitar Magazine, where I will talk about a famous guitar player each month. That should start in a couple of months.

Planet X has already entered the studio to record two new Virgil tunes at Simon Phillips' studio. I enjoyed working with him so much, that I wanted to involve him with the new Planet X CD.

Tony , Virgil and I will hit the rehearsal studio April 11 to complete the writing of the next Planet X CD before we play the Modern Drummer festival. We hope to have all the drum tracks in the can by May 18. When we return from Australia in June, Tony and I will finish our overdubs at the Leopard Room.

We will deliver all parts to the record companies by August 1st, 2001. It will be in the stores by the end of the year.

Stay tuned for confirmed Planet X North American and Australian dates! Check out the Planet X official website for more information!

Here are some lines from one of the reviews :

That all changes with Inertia, a sonically sensual solo album supported by the cream of the progressive rock crop, a record which which Derek calls "a landmark album in my career, given the material and the players I've surrounded myself with, definitely my best recorded work."

Hi Friends!

Things have been very busy over here! my new Project with Ty Tabor and the Bissonette brothers is going great! We have only been together 10 days, and we have written 11 tunes, and have recorded HALF of the CD already!

The music is VERY pop, so dont expect any keyboard solos! However, you may see my rhythm guitar debut!

My solo CD "Rhapsody in Black" will be turned in to the record company Feb. 16. Simon Phillips is doing a great job mixing the CD.

I just talked to Virgil, and Planet X will be playing the Modern Drummer festival May 18 in Montclair NJ. He also has arranged for PX to play in Australia this june, keep you posted!
